RSG Unveils e-Tax Clearance System
The Rivers State Government has unveiled an Electronic Tax Clearance Card (ETCC) system for tax payers in Rivers State.
Executive Chairman of Rivers State Internal Revenue Service (RIRS), Mrs Onene Osila Obele-Oshoko said during a press briefing in her office in Port Harcourt, that the card, which contains the bio data of tax payers in the state, would check fraudulent activities in tax payments and also simplify the process.
Onele Oshoko said that at the moment, only the head office was issuing the card which attracts no payments, noting that all the branches have been electronically linked to ease tax payments.
She stressed the need for tax payers to avoid the use of middlemen in the payment of tax as all payments must be made through designated banks.
According to her, the Board has engaged the services of Tax Audit Monitoring Agents (TAMA) for the collection of tax-related data in companies operating in the state while over 200 staff have been engaged to improve the capacity of the board in the discharge of its duties.
The RIRS boss said apart from the recruitment of the over 200 staff, the board has also organised series of training programmes for its staff to improve their capacities.
The board chairman expressed optimism that the series of innovations will boost the revenue boost the revenue base of the state this year, and thanked the Rivers State Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi for assenting to the bill granting autonomy to the board.
