Rivers Agency Tasks Oil Firms On CSR

Rivers State have been charged on the need to do more in the area of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) so as to better the lots of their communities.
The Sole Administrator of Rivers State Waste Mangement Agency (ROWAMA), Mr Ade Adeogun said this while playing host to Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited on Wednesday at the agency’s premises in Port Harcourt.
He said that the call became imperative after considering the positive impact of the oil sector to the country’s economy.
Adeogun, noted that any constirbution from the oil sector has a far reaching impact on the people due to the importance attached to it globally.
Commeting on the N16.5 million refuse compactor truck donated by the oil gaint, he said they have so far proved their respect and come for the Local Content Act.
According to him, if other oil companies could act in such direction both the people and government of Nigeria would be proud.
The RIWAMA boss, pointed out that such feat could only be attainable in a peaceful environment, adding that all hands must be on deck in order to achieve a calm environment.
Also speaking, the General Manger, public and Governent Affairs, Mobil Producing Nigeria, Mr Paul Arinze, said the Nigeria National Petroleum Corperation (NNPC) has 60- per cent of the fund in the NNPC / MPN Joint Venture used for co-funding the RIWAMA project.
Describing the action as laudable, he expressed hope that oil firms would do their beat in the crusade of making Port Harcourt the cleanest city in Nigeria.
The mobil boss, who spoke through the manger, public and Govenrment Affairs, BRT Onne, Mr Adeyemi Fakayejo, pointed out that mobil has been consistent with its avowed objective of supporting the government with the development of its people.
He recalled that the firm has delivered an average of one major corporate social responsibility project per quarter since January in various parts of the state.
Earlier, the Rivers House Committee Chairman on Enviroment, Hon Victorial Nyeche-Wobo, had lauded the oil company for its gesture, while calling on others to key in and act in same direction.
