Police Foil Bank Robbery In PH, Kill 2
Men of the Nigeria Police Force, Rivers State Command yesterday killed two armed robbers who attempted to rob the Mile 4 branch of Eco Bank located at the campus of the State College of Health Technology along Mile 4, Ikwerre Road in Port Harcourt.
An eye witness, who spoke to our Correspondent said the incident happened at about 3.30pm when the bank officials and customers were making last minute transaction for the day.
According to him, the armed robbers numbering four stormed the bank premises in a red Corola car and started shooting sporadically, making people to scamp for safety.
“My brother, four men came to this bank this mid afternoon and started shooting, but thank God no casualty was recorded throughout their operations, two out of the four men have been shot by the policemen”, he stated.
The Tide learnt that the bank officials and their customers were held hostage for over two hours inside the bank before a combined team from the Abacha Police Division and Mile 11 stormed the area and engaged the armed robbers in a shoot out.
Our correspondent who visited the scene reports that the incident caused heavy traffic gridlock along the busy Agip/Mile 4 road as motorists and road users parked their vehicles and watched from a distance.
Our correspondent further reports that the College of Health Technology became a tourists haven as people trooped from far and near to have a glimpse of the robbers when news filtered that the police had killed two of them.
The Tide also learnt that the robbers did not succeed in their operation before the arrival of the police team.
Some students who spoke to our correspondent, commended the performance of the Police and urged members of the society to continue to support the Nigeria police for better results.
When contacted on phone, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmed Musa confirmed the incident. He said it was true that their men killed two of the robbers during the operation, adding that there was no casualty on the side of the Police.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
