Kebbi, Peace Airline Sign MOU
The Kebbi State
Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the management of Peace Airline for the airline to commence domestic flights in the state by December 1.
The state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Ruwa Dakingari, who signed on behalf of the state government in Birnin Kebbi yesterday, said that Peace Airline was chosen for its reliability.
He said government would provide enabling environment for the successful operation of the airline.
Dakingari said: “we installed modern aviation equipment in the airport; hence we can compete even internationally”.
Mr Allen Onyema, Chairman of Peace Airline, commended the state government for constructing the international airport.
He said that the airport would boost the economy of the state through tourism and employment generation.
Onyema said the airline would employ indigenes for its administrative and cabin crew.
“Our policy envisages that we reciprocate every gesture by employing staff from our host community.”
He said the airline has standard safety measures, especially on maintenance, staff motivation and regular training of staff.
Onyema said that most of “our captains have 60,000 hour flight experience”.
He said the airline would be flying Kebbi -Abuja-Kano-Port Harcourt- Lagos routes.
“We may operate also up to Benin Republic considering that your state bordered with Niger and Benin Republic.
Gov. Saidu Dakingari assured the airline of necessary support to enable them operate successfully.
“We airlifted 5,000 pilgrims to Saudi-Arabia through this airport without hitches.
He said the determination of his administration to develop the state informed the decision to construct the airport.
“We equally provided 1,500 kilometres of road network and our school enrolment has increased to 500,000”.
He said that Alhaji Aliko Dangote had indicated interest to invest nine billion dollars in rice and sugarcane production in the state.
The governor said that the state government had since allocated enough land for him to start the project.
