INEC Staggers PVC Collection In Rivers …Begins Distribution In 14 LGAs Today
Contrary to earlier projections, that the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will commence in all 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Rivers State today, the exercise to will hold in only 14 LGAs.
The LGAs are: Oyigbo, Ogu/Bolo, Omuma, Tai, PHALGA, Okrika, ONELGA, Opobo/Nkoro, Ikwerre, Etche, Khana, Emohua and Gokana.
Making this known in a press conference yesterday at the State INEC headquarters, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Elder Aniedi Ikoiwak, explained that the development was to ensure a hitch-free service delivery.
According to him, as at press time, “we have materials for 14 LGAs. The others are on the way”, and are likely to arrive late.
“But I want to let you people know that the process of sorting these materials takes time. Anybody who was here earlier would see that we started the sorting process (for the 14 LGAs) from Tuesday, and it is still going on.
“The process is not easy and I don’t want to mislead or deceive the people by telling them that the cards that will arrive this night will be sorted and distributed from tomorrow (today)”, he said.
Ikoiwak explained further that the sorting for the remaining nine LGAs will commence on arrival through Saturday and will be ready for distribution from Sunday November 30 to Tuesday, December 2.
The nine LGAs are : Abua/Odual, Ahoada East, Ahoada West, Akuku-Toru, Asari Toru, Andoni, Bonny, Degema and Eleme.
The State INEC boss further stated that the continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will hold as scheduled in the 319 Wards from Wednesday, December 3 to Sunday, December 7, while the 8th will be for objections and corrections.
He noted that after the distribution of the PVCs at the state level, distribution at the Ward level will start alongside the CVR exercise.
It will be recalled that the distribution of the PVCs was earlier scheduled to hold from November 7 to 10, but was later postponed by INEC.
