Time Is Ticking
Time is ticking, as it has always been, and will
till Christ comes! In this clime, time is ticking and it is time again for elections. The political turf is awash with both old political war horses and new entrants. Thus the emerging frenzy scenario is becoming rather interesting.
While the new entrants are dusting their clean profiles to tell the people what stuff they are made off, and why they should be looked at and given a chance to shine. The older politicians desperate to remain relevant and afloat, are resorting to all known and unknown tricks in the books.
While the new entrants have little or no funds to throw around but calculating, counting the cost to know where to start and where to invest, the older and richer ones are busy renting crowds, hiring meeting places, purchasing retrogressive communiques, aimed at once more hoodwinking the masses.
They are shouting themselves hoarse and threatening that nothing short of the top most job will be acceptable to them. They contend that none from their race should go for anything less.
The new entrants are saying no, that such directive is undemocratic, that of course, these older ones started from somewhere, gathered resources and experience, exposure, and eventually grew to what they are today. That they too should be allowed to start from where ever it is possible for them, that no one should be excluded from any elective position. That it is not now that they will call on the spirit of the land and fall on tribal sentiments! Most of them in 1999 started from House of Assembly, others as council Chairmen, was the top most post not vied for then?
Take a good look at the distance between their good suave looks today, their deep pockets and the poverty and neglect of our people, which have led invariably to preventable deaths in our land! These were not so at that time, it is therefore deductable that the wealth they are flaunting were monies meant for our unexecuted projects. So while they grew richer, we the people grew poorer. What arrogance for them to tell us now, what is good for us?
Indeed time is ticking and our people should not waste time anymore listening to these spent forces, but ask some pertinent questions. It is time to ask these old politicians as was done in ancient Rome, “What tributaries or trophies are they coming home with?” “Where are the executed constituency projects?”. You have been in political office from 1999-2003 (4yrs) from 2003-2007,(4yrs) from 2007-2011 another (4yrs) and 2011-to date (3yrs); please tell the people what you did or what you are doing, to still call for our votes or even dictate to us what offices we should aspire for? The people invested in you all these years, what is our harvest? We need to know, please do not remind us the communal and cult wars fought under your watch, please do not remind us of our young ones who died following you, time is ticking, yes we need to know. Before you tell us what to ask for or offices to aspire for, give us account of your stewardship, please, please, we are waiting! Time is ticking and the day of reckoning has finally come.
Those who were selfish and arrogant with opportunities should go and hide their heads in shame. Then it was I, me and myself, the furthest that you ventured out was your spouse and sibling. Time is ticking and it is time to give our verdict, you that hid your talents and our opportunities in the sand of selfishness and arrogance, time has come for us to ignore you, and your ignoble proposal. Thank God, time is ticking; we are free to start from wherever we can and tack with the ticking time and rise to our God ordained Status. Birabi Memorial Grammar School, has a motto that is very apt at this time, it says, ‘Let the light shine.’ Indeed, please let the light shine! You have had more than ample opportunities. Let the light shine through whoever it will! This is our prayer in Jesus name. Amen.
