Rivers Monarch Tasks FAAN On Job Opportunities
The federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and its agencies, have been called upon to follow the stipulations of the Local Content Act, and provide employment for people of their host communities.
The paramount ruler of Omagwa, HRM Eze Jacob Orji, said this in a meeting with the Regional Manager, Port Harcourt International Airport, Mrs Ebele Okoye last Friday at his palace.
He said at least, levels 1-6 jobs, should be strictly reserved for host communities.
Orji, frowned at situation whereby most employment activities are carried out at FAAN’s corporate Headquarters in Lagos, saying that some adjustments ought to be made in that aspect.
The Monarch, also urged the PH Aiport boss, to reconsider some of their concessionairs that were ejected from the terminal building during the remodeling exercise at the airport.
He noted that the best way to go about one’s business was to operate within the armpit of the law, adding that no business can thrive in the midst of disorderliness.
In her response, Mrs Okoye admitted knowing the right things to do, but said that the means are not available.
To buttress her point, Okoye narrated how the airport is indebted to the tune of N130 million as a result of unpaid monies to the suppliers of Automative Gas Oil (AGO).
According to her, the airport is powered daily with one truck of diesel adding that her tenure as recorded a lot if improvements in the area.
On the issue of the ousted concessioners, she promised to provide some containers as to accommodate those that still lacked space.
Meanwhile, Mrs Okoye has called on the host communities to always approach the airport with some achieveable requests like car-hiring opportunities, as she promised to urgently address the employment and other issues raised by the people.
It would be recalled that the authorities of FAAN, had sometime ago in Port Harcourt International Airport, evicted some concessionairs from the terminal building due to the remodeling job as ordered by the federal government.
