NPA To Assist NIMET With Meteorological Equipment
The Nigerian Ports
Authority (NPA) is to assist the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (MIMET) with the provision of a meteorological equipment to all pilotage districts within the organisation to enable it take care of the entire coastal areas of her operations.
The Managing Director of NPA, Mallam Habib Abdullahi, made this known while receiving the Director General of the agency, Dr. Anthony Anuforom, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the organisation’s corporate headquarters at Marina, Lagos recently.
Abdullahi said in recent years, there had been technological improvement in the weather forecast, especially in the aviation sector which could be replicated in the maritime industry.
He pointed out that the provision of the meteorological equipment for the agency was also in line with the Nigerian Ports Authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), having considered the agency’s activities as of utmost importance to the operation of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA).
In his response, the Director General of NIMET, Dr. Anuforom who was accompanied by some top officials of the agency said the purpose of his visit was to re-emphasie the existing collaboration between NPA and NIMET.
Anuforom called on NPA to set up a committee with membership drawn from both NPA and NIMET to work out timelines and terms of references needed for effective collaborations between the two government agencies, and thanked the NPA boss for his interest in NEMA and warm reception.
It was gathered that the committee has since been set up and is expected to develop strategies and modalities for the maintenance of facilities for uninterrupted provision of services as well as the benefits of the collaboration between the two agencies, among others.
