Ikanya Emerges IPAC Chair In Rivers
The State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya has emerged as chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council [IPAC] in Rivers State.
Ikanya emerged as chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the umbrella body of all registered political parties in Nigeria in a keenly-contested election that took place at the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] headquarters in Port Harcourt last Friday.
While declaring Ikanya and other elected officers winners, the electoral committee Chairman, Hon. Agbo Major, who is the national secretary of the NNPP, charged the newly-elected IPAC Executive in Rivers State to create an enabling environment for smooth and cordial relationship among political parties in the state and, by extension, across the nation.
In an interview immediately after being sworn in, Ikanya promised that his leadership will strive to serve the interest of the various political parties, Rivers State and Nigeria at all times.
”I promise that the APC as the ruling party in Rivers State will always carry everybody along,” Ikanya declared.
The chairman promised that IPAC in Rivers State will work with INEC and all relevant organs to ensure peaceful, credible, free and fair elections in Rivers State come 2015.
Also elected were Hon. Echezolam Nweke of the ACD as deputy chairman; Ibiba Walter of the PDP as secretary; Hon. Precious Baridoo of the Accord Party as deputy secretary; Mrs Tepikor Anastesia of NCP was elected as treasurer; Gift Macheyinda was elected as the financial secretary while Engr. Worlu Joshua of the SDP emerged as the body’s PRO.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
