The Federal Government has taken all necessary measures to secure power installations in the troubled North-East region of the country against Boko Haram attacks, the Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil, has stated.
It would be recalled that many parts of Borno State have been in total blackout for about five months as a result of destruction of power installations near Damboa.
The minister, who was in the state on Friday to inaugurate the distribution of relief materials to victims of insurgency in the troubled region, said, “The Federal Government has taken all necessary measures to secure all power installations not only in Borno but across the North-East region to forestall vandalisation of Maiduguri line.”
Wakil, who inspected power installations in the state, asked for the cooperation of security agencies in their protection.
He said, “As much as we know, the state is under security challenges; it is also our duty to support security forces in these difficult and dangerous times.”
He added, “Mr. President commends the patience of the people of the state over the month-long power outage. This unfortunate incident has never happened in the history of Borno State.
“We should all recall that this outage happened not due to technical fault but because of insurgent attacks on the installation.
“The Federal Government has taken all necessary steps to ensure that power is restored to the state without further delay. In due course, blackout will be a thing of the past in this state,” he added.
