Julius Berger Intensifies Fight Against Malaria In Host Communities
Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has continued the fight against malaria in rural communities as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with the visit to Bonny General Hospital and two other health centres in the area in Rivers State to distribute World Health Organization certified long-lasting insecticide-treated bed nets to nursing mothers, pregnant women and other members of the community.
Standing on the remarkable success it recorded during the inaugural distribution exercise in 2012, CSR team, gave out over 500 bed nets to a hilarious crowd that gathered at Bonny General Hospital, on July 9, 2014.
While addressing the recipients of the bed nets, Senor Public Relations Officer, of the company, Mrs Grace Ayoola said Julius Berger acknowledged the serious threat which malaria posed to humanity, especially rural dwellers, hence the intervention to reduce the scourge to the barest minimum.
She said the distribution of the nets was in line with the Corporate Social Responsibility of the company, aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of the people, especially in its host communities.
The CSR team leader said Julius Berger was encouraged to distribute more of the insecticide-treated hed nets this year in appreciation of the fact that the 2012’s intervention had very positive impact on the health of the people.
While giving tutorials on how to use the bed nets, Mrs Ayoola, in recognition that fishing is the occupational identity of Bonny people, warned that the nets should not be substituted for fishing nets.
The same process took place at Abalamabie health centre, where about 210 people comprising mainly pregnant women and nursing mothers were available to collect their own nets.
In her reaction, Supervisor for Health in Bonny Local Government Area, Mrs Dabota Godswill Jumbo, expressed gratitude to Julius Berger for being such a wonderful corporate citizen of Bonny.
Some recipients who spoke to The Tide thanked the management of Julius Berger for embarking on the exercise that has direct bearing on the health of the rural people.
The Beneficiaries included Mrs Stella-Maris Godwin, Mrs Ibinyefagha Banigo, Grace Pepple and Mr. Boma S. Hart.
