Ebola: PHALGA Places Abattoirs, Food Vendors On Red Alert

As part of precautionary measures to avert the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus in the Rivers State capital, Port Harcourt and its environs, the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area (PHALGA) has placed Abbattoir operators, restaurant owners and food vendors in Port Harcourt on red alert.
The Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Port Harcourt City LGA, Hon. Paul Charles, disclosed this in his office while speaking with The Tide on steps being taken by the council to check the spread of the Ebola Virus in the state.
The PHALGA ETC Chairman said any abattoir or food vendor that operates in unhygienic environment would be closed to avoid risking the lives of people in the city.
He stated that the Council had already dispatched its team of health workers and officials to all the nooks and crannies of the city to check the sanitary conditions of abattoirs, food vendors and other related businesses to ensure strict conformity to proper health standards.
Charles also disclosed that the Council would embark on media sensitization campaign to enlighten the people on recent developments on the Ebola scourge.
He said the move was to sensitize families of the need to step up their awareness of hygiene, especially in the preparation and preservation of food stuff to avoid contamination by rodents such as rats, and other animals.
It would be recalled that the nurse who was among the workers who attended to the Liberian that died in Lagos of Ebola reportedly died of the same virus in Lagos Tuesday, a situation that has made the Ebola disease a national emergency.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.
