Rain Claims Lives, Deroofs Houses In Edo
Torrential rainfall
claimed four lives among whom was an undergraduate . and , destroyed over 50 houses and properties worth millions of naira.in Igarra, headquarters of Akoko-Edo local government area of Edo State last Monday.
The rain which started around 11 am on the fateful day, was also reported to have caused serious flooding in the area.
Two of the victims, a girl and a pastor were said to be travelling to Igarra from Auchi in a commercial vehicle alongside other passengers when their vehicle broke down in Egbigere about five minutes drive to their destination and when they attempted to push the vehicle, the flood occasioned by the rain swept them off the road into a nearby stream where they drowned.
Their bodies were discovered the next morning while the two other victims, a middle aged man in Utua area of the community was said to have visited a friend when the building collapsed on him, while the undergraduate was swept away by the flood while coming home from school.
Their bodies were also recovered the following morn
