Nollywood’s Half Of A Yellow Sun Receives International Recognition
Half of a yellow Sun has become one of the most sought after epic movies in the world it is also the first movie collaboration between Nollywood Holly Wood as well as the first block buster Nigeria movie to be premiered at the Toronto International film festival in September 2013. It was also premiered at the London film festival, while the Nigerian Premiere took place at the Silver bird Cinemas, Victoria Island Lagos.
The theme of the suspence filled movie is love, a time of war that is historical in Nigeria and love sets in to hound theme all. The block buster epic movie which enjoys International recognition and acceptance was partly shot in Tinapa studios and various locations in Calabar, and directed by Nigerian play wright, Bisi Bandele, it gulped over $10 million in production cost.
The Flick features Oscar nominee and BARFA winner chiwetel Ejiofor who is a member of the Box office Billionaire club. He played the character odenigbo in the movie. British actress, Thandie Newton, Anika Noni Rose, Nollywood Stars like Genenieve Nnaji who is also a box office Queen, Zack Orji Wale Ojo, O.C. Ukejie, Veteran Singer Onyeka Onwenu, Gloria Young and Tina Mba also starred in the movie.
Some movie buffs who have wathed the movie aruge that with this type of internationally recognized movie, Nollywood’s GDP would increase. It is gathered that the movie will hit the cinemas the country on April 25, 2014.
Synopsis: The film revolves around a set of glammorons twins Olonna (played by Thandie Newton and Kainene (Anika Noni Rose) who comes from a weathy Nigerian family. Having spent time abroad studying, they both returned home to a privileged city lie in a newly independent Nigeria.
The two women then make very different choices, Olanna shocks her family by leading Lagos and going to live with her lover, the revolutionary Professor Odenigbo (Chiwetu Egiofor) and his decocted help Ugwu (John Boyega) in Nsukka.
Instead of dating her father’s Minister friend, her twin Kainene becomes a fiercely successful business woman who takes over her family’s interest, she also surprisingly falls in love with a British Writer, Richard (Joseph Mawle). Preoccupied by their romantic entanglements and a betrayal between the sisters. The events of their life tarried out to be intriguing.
However, they get caught up in the Nigerian Civil War in which the Igbo people foght tough battle to establish Biafra as a separate nation ending in chilling violence which shocked the entire country and the world at large. The movie is a must watch for movie buffs as it is not only exciting, thrilling, but holds the viewer spell bound.

They Booed, Threw Bottles At Me – Tems Recounts
R&B star, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has recounted the early-career challenges she faced, revealing that she was once booed out of the stage while performing at a school event.
Speaking in an interview with Newsmen, the Crazy Tings crooner shared that she wasn’t only booed but was also harassed with plastic bottles.
“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer and I thought I was going to receiving a standing ovation.
“But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me,” she recalled.
Tems explained that despite the embarrassing incident and other such rejections, she remained determined to pursue a career in music.
The Tide Entertainment reports that Tems admitted that some of the initial rejections she faced could be due to her conviction to stick to her originality instead of doing covers or familiar sounds like most of her peers.
The Grammy-winning singer said looking back now, she is glad that she didn’t compromise her style despite the initial pressures.

Primeboy Pleads For Mohbad’s Burial
A close associate of late singer Mohbad, Primeboy, has appealed for the artiste’s burial nearly three years after his death.
According to him, Mohbad’s body remains in the mortuary since September 12, 2023, pending burial arrangements.
The Tide Entertainment reports that in a statement Primeboy urged the family, public, and government to permit the burial, stating, “It’s been almost three years since Mohbad left us. His body is still in the mortuary. I’m begging the family, I’m begging the public, I’m begging the government, please let’s bury our brother. He deserves a befitting burial.”
It would be recalled that Mohbad’s death sparked public outrage, protests, and investigations. Ongoing autopsy examinations, police inquiries, and legal proceedings have delayed burial arrangements amid family disagreements and public scrutiny.
