Ndoni: Of Tradition And Dev
One of the inexorable lessons of history is that a
people marginalized and subjugated for long will one day decide to take their destiny in their hands, chart a new course for themselves and re-write history.
Today, communities surrounding Ndoni are in the threshold of history as they move to carve a niche for themselves.
The communities surrounding Ndoni Central viz-Ase-Imeonita, Umu-Ajie, Onikwu, Agwe, Oduguri, Anieze, Isukwa, Ase-Azaga, Isala, Ugbaja, Ogbe-Ogene, Utu, Obiofu and Utuechi have decided to chart their own developmental path.
It is neither exaggeration nor over statement to assert that these communities so dominated and refused liberation by Ndoni Central have been in misery for many years. The decades of dominance has atomized, bastardised and eroded the economic, political and social life of our people thereby leaving us as mere shadows of our own selves.
On social angle we are backward and empty; on economic life we are subjected to abject poverty and penury while on the political scene, we are made mere surrogates and stooges. Can you imagine that from the time of Late Chief Melford Okilo (2nd Republic Governor of Old Rivers State) to date, what we have gotten from Ndoni Central as positions were; Deputy Chairman and Councillor inspite of all our supports that catapulted them to enviable positions they occupy in Local, State and Federal Government.
It is on record that we gave massive support to Ndoni Central to produce Dr. Peter Odili as the Deputy. Governor and subsequently the governor of Rivers State but nothing to show for our support. Instead, we are seen, regarded, used and treated as the envelope that has lost its importance after the letter enclosed in it has been removed. And, for how long are we going to remain like this?
Now, the real truth is that we want to take our own destiny in our on hands by running a non-stop race to the promised land where our human dignity will no longer be denied or trampled upon.
Today, the nation is going through a national conference aimed at restructuring things for the better in the country but since nobody is there to represent us directly, we have decided to do our own mini conference here by unanimously adopting the “Igwe-Akkah” as our own traditional Ruler. Obviously, our choice of ruler is from Ndoni Central. He is a man who has done so much for his people and extended his kind gesture to us. The man we are talking about single handedly financed, construction of bridges, culverts and sand-filled everywhere hereby bringing development to door-step of his people. This same man was and still is instrumental to the social amenities people of Ndoni are enjoying today. On the political scene, he has packaged, sponsored and made some Ndoni politicians grab power political.
It sounds unbelievable but real that the man we are talking about has done so much for his people and his good deed notwithstanding, he appears to be the Biblical Prophet that is not regarded in his own town. As his .brothers from Ndoni Central do not value him, we value him so much and that is why we crowned him the Igwe-Akkah. Our action is anchored on our belief that the Igwe-Akkah will rescue us, God willing. We are now flabbergasted that after we crowned the man, some people from Ndoni Central who woke up from their sleep rather too late, realized the importance of the man. They are now crying to arouse sentiment.
The stool of the Igwe-Akkah may be as new as a new born baby, it does not matter, but what matters is that an event today will certainly be history tomorrow. It is interesting to note that every royal stool has a date and why it was created, so also is the Igwe-Akkah stool. Interestingly still, the creation of the Igwe-Akkah in November 2013 was timely, having kept quiet for many years and r.emained submissive to uncomfortable domineering tentacle of Ndoni Central till this unbearable moment and that is why we are parting ways.
The move will enhance our pace of development, addmore value to our dignity and pave way for us to be represented where others are represented. We, together with our Igwe-Akkah will also be dreaming tall dreams about developing ourselves and work hard to realize same for a collective good of our people liberated from the shackles of colonialism by Ndoni Central. Moreso, with our Igwe-Akkah leading, we can see a brighter future for our children who will have the right to aspire to become whatever any person from Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State will aspire to be without any person(s) from Ndoni Central over shadowing or her. Surely, positive change will soon be blowing across our land.
The people of Ndoni Central have such a man and do not want to make use of him but we are glad to have him and we will stand solidly behind him. In-deed, the apogee of negligence and indifference Ndoni Central showed to our people’s well -being over the years, spurred us to arrive at where we are today, and that is the leadership of Igwe – Akkah.
To God be the Glory, years of suppression, oppression and deprivation are over and we have been liberated from dungeon.
