Provision Of Water, Part Of APC Agenda -Ikuru
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Engr. Tele Ikuru, says the provision of potable drinking water in line with the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is part of the development agenda of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Engr. Ikuru said this yesterday during the commissioning of a 12,000-litre water borehole scheme in Chiek-Moluk and Iwo-Efuk communities both in Ward 5, Andoni Local Government Area of the state.
Noting that the project was in fulfillment of the electioneering promises of the Governor Amaechi-led administration, the deputy governor stated that “sometime in 2011, I met the people here and they complained about the absence of potable drinking water. There are over 5,000 people in this community, so I was determined to do it,” said Engr. Ikuru.
Reiterating the commitment of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government in the state to enthrone change and enhance the living standard of the masses, Engr. Ikuru pointed out that “whatever we are doing today is in line with the developmental initiatives of our new party.”
He added that the project “is a 2,000-feet water scheme with several discharge points in the community to make for easy access.”
Earlier, the Councillor representing Ward 5 in the Andoni Legislative Assembly, Hon. Accra Miller Jones, appreciated the deputy governor for funding and completing the project, asserting that “water has been a big problem in this community.”
In his welcome address, the Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman, Mr. David Awaji, described Engr. Ikuru as “a Messiah sent by God to help alleviate our problems today,” stressing that his kind gesture “has created an indelible and memorable impression in our minds and hearts and our soil too.”
Dignitaries at the event include former chairmen of Andoni Local Government Area, Messrs. Emmanuel Eneyo and Kingston Sylvanus, former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the LGA, Mr. Esuku Esuku, member of the Rivers State Post Primary Schools Board, Dr Sunday Akikibofori, and a chieftain of the APC in the state, Mr. Ataije Athanasius, amongst others.
