PENGASSAN Condemns Killing Of Students In Yobe
The Petroleum and
Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has condemned the killing of 43 students at Federal Government College, Buni Yadi, in Yobe, on Tuesday.
The association urged the Federal Government to ensure that the perpetrators of the heinous acts were fished out and brought to justice.
The National Public Relations Officer of PENGASSAN, Mr Oluwaseyi Gambo, made the position of the association on the incident known at the presentation of the 2014 Oil and Gas media award in Lagos.
Gambo, at the occasion, organised by Evolution Grassroots, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), said that it was time the government took measures to stop brutal attacks on educational institutions in the Northern part of the country.
He attributed the spate of terrorism in the country to poverty and appealed to the government to provide employment opportunities for jobless Nigerians.
He also advised the government to give attention to other sectors of the economy other than oil and gas sector, saying that all the sectors “should be working”.
Mr Adekunle Ajibulu, Executive Director, Evolution Grassroots, said that the award was borne out of respect his organisation had for the media, especially for journalists involved in advocacy and labour matters.
“The organisation exemplifies its award by identifying with individuals and corporate organisations who have exceptionally distinguished themselves in building leadership and capacity of others,” he said.
Ajibulu said that the 2014 Oil and Gas National Award was one of the most distinguished platforms to recognise leadership qualities in the sector, noting that oil and gas has been Nigeria’s source of income for a long time, making it a vital and delicate sector to handle,” Ajibulu said.
He commended the media and PENGASSAN for their sustained campaign for the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).
