RSNC Boss Challenges NIM On Anti-Graft War
Members of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) have been challenged to use their vaintage positions to check the endemic corruption ravaging both the public and private sectors in the country.
The General Manager, Rivers State Newspaper Corporation, Mr. Celestine Ogolo threw the challenge Friday at a luncheon organized by the Rumuolumeni Chapter of NIM, at St. John’s campus of the Ignatius Ajuru University of education (IAUE), Port Harcourt.
In his lecture titled, “The Nigerian Institute of Management, Serving As Agent of Change In A Contemporary Society”, Ogolo noted that NIM as a multi-disciplinary umbrella of professional managers established in 1961 and incorporated under the Nigerian Companies Act, Cap 37, has the mandate to regulate the management standards and values in the country and should stimulate genuine change in the society.
Regretting that some members of NIM have been involved in unprofessional practices and fraudulent activities, Mr. Ogolo expressed the need for them to do all within their powers to institutionalize prudence, frugality, transparency and accountability in the management of government affairs as well as ensure good corporate governance in the country.
Ogolo who also called for thorough investigation and possible prosecution of members involved in acts inimical to the progress of the institute, stated that the step would serve as a deterrent to others who might want to take undue advantage of their privileged positions in managing scarce resources entrusted into their care.
“NIM members must also comply with the code of conduct outlined for all professional managers by not paying lip service to the observance of the letters”, he noted adding that, if possible NIM must insist that the code of conduct must be displayed in all public offices across the nation.
Responding on behalf of the award recipients, the VC commended the body for the honour done them saying it would encourage them in their bid to maintain professional excellence.
Highlight of the event was the award of honours to the Vice Chancellor of the IAUE, Prof. Rosemund Green-Osaghulu, Grant Orugbani, Prof. L.A. Briggs and Dr. U.N.O. Uwaga while certificate foe Excellence of remarkable support were given to the registrar of the University, barrister Ikem Adeiele and ten others.
