Ex-NDDC Director Wants Oil Firms To Dev Communities
A former Executive Director of Projects in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Engineer Beniah Ojum, has called on multinational companies operating in Rivers State to engage in corporate investment and entrepreneurial development in their host communities to enhance the living standard of the people.
Ojum disclosed this at Ogbogu community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, at the weekend, during a thanksgiving service organised at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Ogbogu.
He said ONELGA as the hub of oil and gas had given a lot to the corporate growth of the multinationals, and pointed out that the host communities deserve better living condition in all spheres of their endeavour as “part of the symbiotic relationship and corporate social responsibilities”.
While commending the multinationals for their effort in the development of Egi clan, he said more was expected in terms of human capacity development, infrastructural development and sustainable economy in the area.
The former NDDC boss who was celebrating the successful graduation of his two children as a lawyer and medical doctor, respectively, also canvassed greater funding for the Nigeria education sector, to position the Nigeria higher institutions as active citadels of knowledge.
He commended the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for the bold steps taken to enhance the capacity of Nigerian universities, and appealed to the striking teachers to call off the strike to alleviate the plight of parents and students.
Ojum also called for a multisectoral approach towards the development of the Nigerian education sector to position Nigerian universities among the best in the world.
He also expressed gratitude to God for the rare feat recorded in his family, and called on youths to embrace education to secure their future.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
