Edo Disburses N100m Grant To Schools
The Edo State Government has disbursed N100 million grant to some selected schools in the state under the Education Infrastructure Revival Policy supported by the World Bank .
The grant was disbursed to five selected technical colleges as part of efforts to produce qualified artisan and middle level manpower in the state.
The Commissioner for Higher Education, Mr Washington Osifo, released the cheques to the benefiting schools on behalf of Governor Adams Oshiomhole, in Benin.
The benefiting schools were Igarra, Afuze and Irrua technical colleges, the College of Agriculture, Ughioriaki and the Skill Acquisition Centre, Aduwawa.
He said the amount was the first to be disbursed under the programme, initiated to revive technical education and skills acquisition centres across the state in the next three years.
The governor said the state government would continue to work with local and international partners to ensure speedy development of manpower to enhance the state’s economic competitiveness.
He directed principals and project implementation committees to adhere strictly to the procurement guidelines set by the bank, and execute projects earmarked for the schools’ improvement.
Earlier, the Coordinator of state employment and expenditure for Result (SEEFOR), Mr Taiwo Akerele, commended the state government for its support, saying the programme would ensure quality education, skills acquisition and manpower development.
He pledged to utilise the funds efficiently in order to access the remaining amount earmarked for the programme.
It would in the next three years upgrade existing facilities to pave way for the accreditation of courses run by the benefiting schools.
