Kickboxing Boss Harps On Athletes’ Commitment
The representative of
World Kickboxing Association (WKA) in Nigeria Sensei Victor Bassey, has charged newly discovered kickboxers in the state to be committed to their chosen carrier and also take their training seriously.
Bassey, who gave the charge yesterday in an exclusive interview with Tide sports at the Alfred Diette Spiff Sports Complex, in Port Harcourt said that the only way for the new athletes to sustain and improve on their current form was to keep training and be focused on their targets.
He also challenged the state Chief Coach of Kickboxing, Agamaye Roland to work hard on the new athletes ahead of the 2014 National Sports Festival scheduled to hold in Calabar, Cross Rivers State.
Meanwhile, Rivers State discovered about four new athletes during the just concluded kickboxing programme tagged “2013 WKA Open Kickboxing Championship” hosted by the state.
Six states out of 15 invited for the competition participated in the tournament which include Kano, Benue, Kaduna, Delta, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Edo, Lagos, FCt, Akwa –Ibom and Cross River States.
Rivers State clinched first position having won eight gold, two silver and three bronze, Benue went home with four gold, Kaduna two gold, Abia one gold and two silver, while, Akwa-Ibom won one silver respectively.
High point of the event was the awarding of honourary awards to the sports officer, Nigeria Police, Rivers State Command, Director of Sports Rivers State Sports Council, Sir, Daobu Harvest Harry, others were Director of Stadia Authority, Mr James Nwogu and management of Indmie Instant Noddles Company for their support to the development of kickboxing in the state.
