Rangers FC Hails Obuh’s Appointment
The Media Officer of
Rangers International FC of Enugu, Foster Chime, has described the appointment of John Obuh as the club’s new coach as a welcome development.
Chime told newsmen that the board had forged ahead to appoint a qualified coach to start work immediately ahead of the next season.
Chime said that Obuh had been mandated by the club’s management to ensure that the white antelopes emerged the 2013/2014 league champions.
“(Okey) Emordi’s contract ended on the last day of the 2012/2013 season, although he resigned before hand.
“We still went ahead to look for a qualified hand like Obuh as he is the one who can fit in perfectly.
“The board met and discussed his terms of employment and he was given a target to win the coming league, the Federation Cup or grab a continental ticket.
“We will allow him the enabling environment to accomplish all those things. He is now solely in charge of Rangers International,’’ the spokesman said.
On preparations and scouting for the coming season, the officer said Obuh was given the privilege to restructure the team to his taste.
“If he comes and looks at the calibre of players already there and feels he needs to change the squad, he is free to do so,’’ Chime said.
He said what the club’s management wanted from Obuh was the best and nothing but the best for the next season.
The appointment of Obuh, the former head coach of the national U-20 team, the Flying Eagles, was announced in Enugu on Monday by the club’s management.
Obuh succeeded Okey Emordi whose one-year contract terminated with the last season.
Rangers finished fifth on the Globacom Premier League for the 2012/2013 season, but that was not enough for the club to grab a continental ticket for the next season.
The club had for the last three seasons remained without a cup.
