Primate Wants FG To Monitor Funds For Varsities
The Primate of Nige
ria (Anglican Communion), the Most Rev Nicholas Okoh, has urged the Federal Government to always supervise the use of funds released to universities.
He gave the advice on Thursday in Abuja while addressing newsmen on the forthcoming Divine Commonwealth Conference (DIVCCON).
According to him, such supervision will ensure accountability and transparency and, even, encourage the Federal Government to do more for the universities.
“We should not wait until we are given the whole world before we learn to manage what we get properly. It should be managed accurately regardless of how large or little it may be, he said.
He said “Back in those days, schooling was much easier and the environment was more conducive to learning; facilities were better maintained and that ensured good learning environment,’’ he said.
Okoh said that universities should not just be places where people go and come out of as graduates, but should be places where both education and moral values are instilled in students.
He, however, urged the Federal Government to always make funds available to the institutions, as well as ensure proper use of the funds.
