Kurubo Model School Rejects Eight New Teachers …Sacks One
The authorities of the Rivers State Government-owned Ambassador Nne Furo Kurubo Model Secondary School, Eleme say they have commenced move to replace eight of the schools newly recruited teachers, even as it has sacked one over indiscipline.
Managing Director of Educorp Limited the Indian firm running the school, Mr Shantarian Hegdekatte who dropped the hint in a chat with newsmen at the weekend said management would not compromise on the high and discipline standard already set for the school.
He explained that the eight teachers bring replaced and the one sacked were among the 13,000 teachers recently recruited by the state government.
Hedgekatte said that, the school was not ready to compromise on discipline and decorum as doing that would amount to jettisoning the good intention of the state government towards the production of quality manpower that could stand the test of time anywhere in the world.
He said that even the state Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and his Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence- Nemi had no influence on who should be appointed into the academic staff of the school, pointing out that appointment was solely on merit.
Meanwhile, the school Authorities have said that they would resist any attempt to divide the students along religious lines.
Reacting to the protest by some of the students that they are barred from holding prayers rallies in the campus, Mr. Hedgekatte said that the school is not opposed to prayer, but that students were being groomed to recognized that prayer could not make miracles to fall from heaven, as success lies in hardwork.
He also alleged plan by some teachers who are pastors to divide the students along religious lines, noting that such situation would not be tolerated.
The Managing Director advised the public not to panick as the school was in the best possible hands, adding that the management was arranging a meeting between parents and the students to sort out the problem.
