Borno, NPC Sign MoU On Demographic Data
Borno State Government
last Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Population Commission (NPC) for the collation of health and demographic data in the state.
Alhaji Ahamed Sanda, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, signed on behalf of the state, while Alhaji Hamman Shani, the Borno State NPC Commissioner, signed on behalf of the commission.
Sanda said the MoU would help collate data on birth and death rates in all health institutions in the state for effective planning by the government.
“The MoU is geared towards strengthening government implementation of its health care programme.
“It is indeed a great step towards providing effective health care services to all segments of the society,” he said.
Shani said officials of the NPC would be deployed to health institutions under the MoU to record birth and death rates.
“Records on births and deaths are important because they provide regular updates on population figures in an area.
“Through birth registration, identities of all children born in the state are established which help in determining future school enrolment, health care needs, scholarship among others,” he said.
