LG Polls: Traditional Ruler Canvasses Issue-Based Campaigns
The Otaru of Igarra in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo, Oba Adeche Saiki, has urged candidates participating in the state’s Local Government elections to conduct issue-based campaigns.
Saiki advised that candidates parties participating in the April 20 council polls in the state should not be involved in mudslinging and name calling, urging them to focus on issues of development.
He made the call on Tuesday in his palace at a news conference to herald this year’s Ubete Festival.
Ubete Festival is an annual event to mark the possession of Etuno land by Igarra people from the aborigines.
The monarch also urged politicians to emulate the performance of Gov. Adams Oshiomhole.
“It is my belief that the present administration of Gov. Adams Oshiomhole has created a record that anybody who wants to come in must be able to emulate or beat. “Gov.Oshiomhole has showed us that government can do more than what we thought they were doing before he came into power,” Saiki stated.
The traditional ruler said that any elected public officer, even at the council level, must work to complement efforts so far made by the governor.
“This is what campaign for the council poll should be based on and not otherwise,” he added.
