Jonathan Summons Police Authorities Over Clash With NSCDC
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday summoned the authorities of the Nigeria Police over clash between policemen and members of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Lagos.
The clash, which occurred last Wednesday, reportedly left two officials of the NSCDC dead.
Our correspondent reports that the president met behind closed doors for about an hour with a police delegation led by the DIG ‘A’ Division, Suleiman Fakai at the Presidential Villa.
Other members of the police delegation were the Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Umar Manko, ACP in-charge of Anti-Vandalism, Friday Ibadin and the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Muhammed Abubakar, was said to be currently out of the country.
Emerging from the meeting, Mba told State House correspondents that the clash formed part of the issues discussed with the president.
He said that the police used the opportunity of the meeting to give the President “the police perspective of the report.’’
Mba said, “the meeting is just one of those routine visits where the police leadership come around to brief the president on co-operation-related issues.
“Of course, the clash between policemen and officials of the NSCDC is one of the issues we discussed, as we (the police) have to come in here to give the president a police perspective of what transpired.
“That is exactly what the leadership of the police has done, giving the president a comprehensive report of what actually happened from police perspective and actually presenting the facts as they were.’’
