Of Same Sex Marriage And Proclivities
Currently, sex, sexism and sexuality in Africa are reflective of a hybrid of Western values manifesting in gender chauvinism, homosexuality, marriages, sodomy, lesbianism and the Oedipus complex. What a shame! These sexual vitiations and dispositions are un-African, ungodly and smack of socio-cultural suicide.
How can a woman be married to a fellow woman? Similarly how can a man be married to fellow man? Worst of all, how can a man and a woman be involved in bestiality? (sexual relationship with dogs, pigs, goats etc). Better put, sex with animals? It is all the more surprising and frightful to learn that a son could have sexual relations with his mother. Or a boy involved in incestuous relationship with his sister? Indeed, these are indications that the times are perilous, dangerous and eschatological.
This moral degeneracy is further compounded by the degree of legislation which the prevailing horrendous sexual mien is enjoying in some countries. For instance, in the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada and South Africa, among others, gay marriage has been legalised. In the United States of America and Britain, it is practised with reckless abandon. And under the guise of democracy, sodomy is now in vogue.
These moral reprobates claim to be in a free world where everything goes. They feel no qualms about it and assert that it is their right to have whatever form of sexual escapades they choose without regard for the interest of the larger society. This is a form of secular humanism that is based on mechanistic, materialistic and non-compos mentis civilisation.
In the light of this dangerous situation, the federal government acted fast by sponsoring the Prohibition of Same Sex Marriage Bill which smoothly sailed through the National Assembly and has since become a law. This is a proactive move to forestall our being caught unawares. But since that bill became an Act, no one has either been tried under it or convicted.
The battle against homosexuality nay sexual perversion should not be left for the government alone. Churches, mosques, religious leaders of all kinds, non-governmental organisations, lawmakers, parents, traditional rulers and all alike must wage war against all forms of sexual perversions, in our society, particularly gay marriages.
The fight against this ill is imperative, especially because of its effects upon society. Apart from its being unnatural and inconsistent with divine injunctions and our cultural values, it is a threat to humanity and family values. Infact, if all- owed, the menace will destroy civilisation and humanity. Should gay marriage thrive, the population of the world may diminish.
Every Nigerian must be involved in the fight against gay marriage in order to save the nation from the holocaust of immorality. This is a battle that must be won to rescue our nation from going down the precipice of moral concupiscence. We are not alone in the fight against the malaise. African countries such as Uganda, Ghana, Kenya and Senegal have also restricted gay rights in recent years.
Many traditional and religious leaders in Africa condemn homosexuality as in Africa regardless of gnawing calls from activists across the continent for gay rights to be recognized. And under pressure from their own electorates, western leaders are increasingly trying to exert their influence on proposals which they argue are against fundamental human values. That was why the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, David Cameron, suggested that aid budgets could be cut to countries that didn’t recognise gay rights. This was an attempt to intimidate countries that had legislated against the practice. But since we are a people that hold our values, customs and traditions dearly, we must resist further pressure from any country to act otherwise.
Scientific discovery in genetic engineering has proved that some human beings are born with defective genes with a tendency to indulge in sexual perversions. In my opinion, this class of persons ought to be pitied than punished. They truly require psychological or medical therapy.
It is clear to all that this moral predicament calls for holistic re-orientation of African values. The intrusion of western civilisation into our African society has made fundamental and far-reaching negative impacts on the foundation of our morality and culture.
We must therefore return to the basics. We have to map out strategies to protect our value system and re-state the fact that our culture only recognizes, heterosexual relationship in marriage.
