Transporters Hike Fares In Asaba After Yuletide
Transporters in Asaba, Delta State have increased fares as people return to base after the Christmas and New Year holidays.
An investigation by a our correspondent who visited Chukwudumebi and Efex motor parks last Friday in Asaba, revealed that the transporters are charging N3,000 from Asaba to Lagos instead of the usual N2,500.
The survey also revealed that the transporters charged N4,600 from Asaba to Abuja as against N4,200.
Some of the transporters who spoke to our correspondent attributed the increase to slight increase in the price of fuel and the large turnout of travellers.
Chiedu Orji, a driver at Chukwudumebi park said, “since the season began, we have been buying petrol at N115 per litre, instead of N97 and there is no way we can charge the same N2,500 from Asaba to Lagos.
Mrs Isioma Okpala, a Ticketing Officer with Efex Motors said: “Apart from the slight increase in the price of fuel, the large turnout of passengers at this time of the year always attracts fare increase.
“This is the only time we can make up for our losses. “This is our season and we shall make the best out of it”.
