Group Tasks Govt On Repair Of Roads
Federal and State Governments last weekend were charged to expedite actions in repairs of failed infrastructure especially road network across the country to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the citizenry.
The Diocesan Men’s Christian Association (DMCA), Diocese of Niger Delta North in Rivers State, said the massive decay in road projects have greatly impeded economic activities and vehicular movement of the people. It argued that there was no better time to give facelift to roads than now that the dry season is setting in.
In a communiqué at the end of its 4-day conference at St. Patrick’s (Anglican) Church, Ekporo in Eleme Local government Area or Rivers State, the christian organisation (DMCA) reflected on the State of the nation and unequivocally condemned the incidence of terrorism in the land, describing the trend as alien.
According to it, terrorism, crude oil theft, vandalism and other high profile crimes cannot thrive where there are no sponsors and beneficiaries from such crime, and therefore charged the security agencies to spare no efforts at unmasking those behind the atrocities and bring them to book.
The communiqué signed by the DMCA President-General, Sir Chuks Boms and the assistant General Secretary, Mr. Sampson Akani also called for a collaborative efforts between the church and the State in the fight against terrorism, injustice and corruption in high and low places in the country.
The group, however, sympathized with the flood victims in parts of the country, and commended the efforts of government and well-meaning organizations to alleviate the plight of the flood victims.
It described as insensitive the activities of some persons or group who take advantage of the flood situation to enrich themselves to the detriment of the victims, and urged government to deal decisively with such persons or groups.
Government, it said should take appropriate long-term measures to tackle the menace of flooding and other natural disasters in the country to check future occurrence.
While calling on all Nigerians to support the transformation initiatives of President Goodluck Jonathan administration to promote good governance and national development, DMCA asked the citizens to stop the blame game but work collectively to correct past mistakes and move the nation forward.
The men organization also expressed gratitude to the roadmap of the Archbishop Province of Niger Delta and Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. I.C.O. Kattey in aggressive evangelism to win souls for Christ and stressed the need for the church to remain unrelenting in its task of moulding the character of the people.
On the alarming cases of prostatic diseases among men, it advised them to go for regular medical checkup, but importantly stressed the need for the male folk to be conscious of what they eat and the life style they lived.
The 2012 DMCA conference had the theme “Obey The Word Of God Diligently, drawn from Isaiah 1:19. “
