Harosa Football Competition Begins In Alimini
The second edition of the Harosa Football Competition in Alimini kicked-off at the weekend at Elele-Alimini Town in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State with Mgbu Anyim FC beating Omuorihuru FC 4-0 in an encounter that was witnessed by the 10 competing villages of Alimini as well as dignitaries.
In his address at the opening ceremony, the cup donor, Mr Harold Owhochukwu Orisa noted that the competition was to foster unity and peaceful co-existence in the communities, fish out young talents and engage them in meaningful activities.
The former representative of Alimini in Total Oil Company (OML 58) stressed that apart from creating an avenue for recreation, the competition serves as a check on youth restiveness and cult related activities.
He also reiterated that the football tournament had exposed some of the youth who had been opportuned to play in various club-sides abroad including France, Holland and Germany.
The sports promoter and soccer enthusiast stated that various awards and consolation prizes had been earmarked for the closing ceremony slated for 31st December 2012 at the Community Secondary School Field, Elele Alimini.
They include N50,000 for the overall winner, N30,000 and N20,000 for the second and third positions respectively as well as consolation prizes for the best behaved team, best goal keeper and best player of the tournament.
Among the dignitaries that witnessed the opening match were: the Commanding Officer 343 Air Defence Artillery Regiment (ADAR) Army Barracks Elele, who took the kick-off.
Area Commander, Area Command Police Headquarters Ahoada, Dividional Police Officer (DPO), Rumuji Police Station and the councillor representing Ward 9, Elele Alimini.
Others were members of the organising committee which include: Mr Joseph Agbarakwu, Technical Adviser, Chibuike Woka, Tony Chianuka (Treasurer) Chinedu Dike, Director Gbasam and Moses Elenwo.

Iwobi Optimistic On S’Eagles Qualification
Iwobi spoke to Tidesports source ahead of Nigeria’s crunch playoff semi-final against Gabon on Thursday, November 13, in Rabat, Morocco.
The 28-year-old was reacting to Nigeria’s shaky World Cup qualifying campaign that saw the Eagles finish second in Group C behind South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
“We’ve managed to rescue ourselves from the dead,” Iwobi told Tidesports source.
We know we have the players and the abilities to compete against any other country in the world.”
The Fulham star pointed to Nigeria’s star power, highlighting African Footballer of the Year winners Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen as proof of the squad’s quality.
“We have last year’s African best player (Ademola Lookman), the year before that (Victor Osimhen),” he said.
“It’ll be a shame if we don’t make it, but we have a lot of confidence. We just have to prove it to ourselves.”
Nigeria’s path to the United States, Canada and Mexico has been turbulent, with two coaches departing during the early stages of qualifying before Éric Chelle steadied the ship to steer the Super Eagles into November’s CAF playoffs.
Four nations from the continent – Nigeria, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon – will vie for a solitary spot to compete in next March’s inter-confederation playoffs, with a view to joining the already nine qualified African nations at the Finals.
It would mark Iwobi’s second appearance at the World Cup Finals and the Super Eagles’ first since the 2018 edition of the competition.
Back then, Iwobi featured in all three games as Nigeria was knocked out in the group stage.
