Association Blames Poverty For Insecurity
Leader of the Exodus 2000 Millennium Association, aka, “The
law is taller than man,” Prince (Dr) Taiwo O. Konigbagbe, has blamed the
insecurity of lives and property in the country on crippling poverty.
Konigbagbe stated this in an exclusive interview with our
correspondent in Lagos. He said when people are poor they will do anything for
money including harming their fellow men.
The radical metaphysician and activist said that Nigeria has
become a society where people cannot dream anymore not to mention actualising
such dreams. He blamed this on what he calls hijack of power by some cabals in
the society.
He noted that the cabal controls the politics, the economy
and everything else.
In his words, “the situation in the country is not a
security problem, it is that of poverty. You cannot start building a house from
the rooftop. Unless we employ our youths and give them food and paying jobs,
crime will remain with us,” he stated.
He further explained that the rate of violence in the
country has gone beyond President Goodluck Jonathan’s control and suggested
that all hands be on deck to check the spate of violence and criminality in the
society.
The Human rights crusader stated that policing is not a
one-man business but a collective responsibility. He therefore suggested a new
security initiative which according to him, is African Traditional “Ogun” that
can fish out every perpetrators of crime in the society.
The metaphysician and activist advised that everyone must be involved in issues relating to security, by being our brothers’ keepers and also partnering with security agencies to prevent crimes, as the undesirable and criminal-minded people are neither ghost nor spirits.
He urged the federal government to play its part, as members
of the Boko Haram can easily be fished out if only our political leaders are
sincere to embrace community policing by reporting any form of threat or acts
likely to cause breach of peace, adding that every community head knows bad
eggs in his or her domain. “We don’t need to pretend and cover the truth,” he
said.

Kenyan Runners Dominate Berlin Marathons
Kenya made it a clean sweep at the Berlin Marathon with Sabastian Sawe winning the men’s race and Rosemary Wanjiru triumphing in the women’s.
Sawe finished in two hours, two minutes and 16 seconds to make it three wins in his first three marathons.
The 30-year-old, who was victorious at this year’s London Marathon, set a sizzling pace as he left the field behind and ran much of the race surrounded only by his pacesetters.
Japan’s Akasaki Akira came second after a powerful latter half of the race, finishing almost four minutes behind Sawe, while Ethiopia’s Chimdessa Debele followed in third.
“I did my best and I am happy for this performance,” said Sawe.
“I am so happy for this year. I felt well but you cannot change the weather. Next year will be better.”
Sawe had Kelvin Kiptum’s 2023 world record of 2:00:35 in his sights when he reached halfway in 1:00:12, but faded towards the end.
In the women’s race, Wanjiru sped away from the lead pack after 25 kilometers before finishing in 2:21:05.
Ethiopia’s Dera Dida followed three seconds behind Wanjiru, with Azmera Gebru, also of Ethiopia, coming third in 2:21:29.
Wanjiru’s time was 12 minutes slower than compatriot Ruth Chepng’etich’s world record of 2:09:56, which she set in Chicago in 2024.
