RSG Partners ANA On Reading Culture
The Rivers State Government, has reiterated its commitment in the promotion of reading culture among students in the state.
The State Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi made this disclosure in Port Harcourt when the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Rivers State branch paid her a courtesy visit in her office.
Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi said that the government has done so much in the area of promoting the reading habit of students by organising academic competitions like quiz, essays and debates.
The commissioner also said that the ministry has re-introduced adult education programmes in the rural areas of the State.
She noted that the ministry will partner with the association in the area of promoting literary activities.
Dame Alice Lawrence-Nemi revealed that the ministry would ensure a smooth organisation of the essay and quiz competition the association is planning for Rivers students and hinted that the competition would be spread across the three senatorial districts in the state.
Already, she said committee has been set-up to supervise the smooth conduct of the two academic competitions.
In his earlier remark, Chairman of ANA, Rivers State, Mr. Obinna Nwodim commended the state government for its giant strides in reviving the face of education in the state.
Nwodim said the free education policy of the Rivers State Government is now enjoyed in all nooks and crannies of the State as its model primary schools can also be seen in all communities.
The state chairman of ANA stated that the body wants to partner with the ministry in the area of promotion of literary activities in the State.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of certificate of membership of the Association book authored by members to the Commissioner for Education, Dame Lawrence-Nemi.
