NAWOJ Decries Bad Roads In South-South
The South-South Zone of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalist (NAWOJ) has ended its zonal meeting last week with a call on the Federal Government of Nigeria to give attention to roads in the South-South region of the country.
In a communiqué issued by members of South-South executive of the association, the South-South NAWOJ expressed dismay over the deplorable state of roads in the region and the country at large, which in their explanation, constitute daily death traps to users and inhabitants of the region.
It called on the federal government to expedite action on the construction and rehabilitation of the roads as well as tackle the security challenges of the country by recognising the role women can play in peace and conflict resolution.
In another development, Zone F NAWOJ has called on employers of journalists to train and retrain their employees so as to meet up with the global ICT – based practice.
It also sympathises with the families of those who lost their loved ones, as a result of the petrol tanker’s explosion at Ahoada, Rivers State and cautions against recurrence of such disaster.
Families of the Dana Air Crash victims were not also left out as NAWOJ calls on the federal government and Airspace Regulators to ensure strict compliance by air operators to avert further air disasters.
Meanwhile, the South-South zonal meeting which had in attendance the Commissioner for Housing, Delta State, Chief Paulinus Akpeki and the General Manager of NTA, Awka, Bridget Nwadishi, had the theme: ‘Female Journalists and the Peace Imperative.’
Also present at the meeting were the VP Zone F, Mary Asuquo, chairpersons and secretaries of Akwa Ibom, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states including journalists and guests.
