Police Re-Strategise To Fight Crime In Lagos
The rate of Crime perpetration by hoodlums and unscrupulous persons in the Ogba, Dopemu area of Lagos State seems to have reduced significantly in recent times.
This may be attributed to the intensified surveillance activities by the officers and men of the Area “G” monitoring unit of the Nigeria Police.
Investigation by The Tide reveals that the monitoring team is getting more determined and strategic in its approach. And this is no doubt sending powerful signals to hoodlums who now get less indulgent for the fear of being apprehended.
According to a source who preferred anonymity, “it is dangerous to do anything criminal now in the Ogba, Dopemu Agege as all these boys in the Police monitoring unit are everywhere. You can hardly identify them because some of them even dine and wine with you and yet you may not know them”.
Recent checks showed that the level of volatility in the area has fast reduced while the Pen Cinema, one time reputed for crime that eventually earned it the status of a “black spot of Terror” is now wearing a new status.
The Agege as well as Dopemu are also gradually becoming safe, peaceful and completely Crime free.
Our correspondent who visited Ogba, a suburb of Ikeja-Lagos observed the level of tranquility in these area and notice that the area are becoming less pruned to crime.
The Tide also observed that officers and men of the Area “G” monitoring unit under the control of the Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Alhaji Ishola, are scattered all over the area in plain clothes.
According to a source close to the Area Commander, the ACP has vowed to create a lasting impact in its operations, especially with the current emphasised by the new Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Abubaka Mohammed, on professionalism by the new Nigeria Police force.
