C’ River Begins Demolition Of Illegal Structures
The Cross River Government has embarked on the demolition of buildings and structures that do not conform to the existing urban rules and regulations in Calabar metropolitans.
The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Mr Ralph Uche, said on Monday in Calabar that the exercise started at Ekorinim along Army Jetty road.
He said that an uncompleted building in the area, which had no approval, was pulled down, adding that the building was built on an oil pipeline as well as on government acquired land without allocation.
Uche said the ministry also demolished perimeter fences on a parcel of land which some members of Ekorinim community had trespassed on and sold to an unauthorised developer within the portion of land meant for Port Side Development.
The commissioner said that at Esuk Utan along the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) depot road, a stretch of fence that was built beyond the buffer area was also brought down.
“At Archibong Eso lane, vicinity fence, rooms and shops attached to main buildings, including shanties used as dwelling houses and shops that prevented road construction in the area, were demolished,’’ he said.
