Rivers Awards N4.5bn Road Project
The Rivers State Government, has awarded N4.5 billion contract for the construction of 4.7 kilometres of road in the new city under construction in Port Harcourt.
The state government had in 2009, unveiled a 50-year development plan to build a new city tagged: Greater Port Harcourt, from the present Port Harcourt.
The Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority, Mrs Aleruchi Cookey-Gam, told our correspondent in Omagwa, that the project had already been handed over to the contractor, Deux Projects Limited.
She said the road would link the central business district and the new Rivers University of Science and Technology, adding that the project would be completed in 24 months.
The administrator said that the road would have a life span of 30 years when completed.
“This road will serve the university and also the central business district; one kilometre into the central business district.
“The contract cost for the road is approximately N4.5 billion and it’s to be delivered in 24 months. The road is about 4.7 kilometres of road.”
Cookey-Gam said that the road project, when completed, would fast-track the development of the new Greater Port Harcourt city.
The Project Director of Deux Projects Limited, Dr Walter Olatunde, gave the assurance that the project would be executed according to specification and delivered before December.
