Amaechi Assures Rivers Residents Of Security
Governor Chibuike Amaechi has dismissed fears that an
explosion that tore a commercial bus apart in Rumuokoro in the outskirt of Port
Harcourt South-South Nigeria, yesterday was a terror attack and assured
residents to go about their daily activities without fear.
Rt. Hon Amaechi who visited the scene of the incident about
midday yesterday, said the explosion was caused by dynamites being conveyed by
some armed robbers heading to an unknown destination.
He told the residents,’ All of you are eye witnesses that
what you have here is not a bomb explosion. What you have here is an attempt by
three persons, or robbery mission. We don’t know where they were heading to,
where they were going to rob but in their vehicle they had an explosive device,
a dynamite.
‘’ We suspect they must be smoking which ignited the
dynamite. This , the Commissioner of Police has already confirmed. We
understand that there was even a lady selling by the road side and was not even
affected; no building was affected ‘’.
The Governor re-echoed the views of the state police
commissioner that preliminary investigations by police indicate that the
explosive was not a bomb as there was no crater nor damage to the road, but
only the bus was destroyed in flames.
While calling on the citizenry to be calm Governor Amaechi
urged those using social networks to always verify their source in order not to
send false alarm to unsuspecting members of the public,’’ the problem with the
social media is that without waiting for outcome of police investigation, they
just concluded that it must be a bomb blast, that Boko Haram has arrived Port Harcourt
‘’.
He assured,’’ …the Police
and all other security operatives are on the alert and we will not allow
Boko Haram to come to Rivers State’’.
Amaechi restated the resolve of the administration to ensure
high level security for lives and properties of all Rivers People, including
residents who stay to do business.
