Jonathan Assures On Quality Education
The Federal Government has described quality education as strategic to the attainment of Vision 2020,20.
President Goodluck Jonathan who said this during the “Homecoming ceremony of the university of Port Harcourt Alumni Association last Friday in Port Harcourt, also described Alumni Association as critical stakeholders of the university system.
The president, who was represented by the Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Dame Alice Lawrence Nemi, said that Alumni Associations must continue to play its role as the bridge between the past and present in the system.
The Rivers State Governor Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi said that Alumni Associations must be involved in the development of their Alma Maters.
The Governor represented by the Permanent Secretary Rivers State Ministry of Education, Mr Richard Ofuru said that the government has done so much for the institution, by siting some projects in the institutions campus.
Meanwhile the University of Port Harcourt has commended the Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesome Wike for the inauguration of the Obi Wali’s Chair for Language and Literature and the Claude Ake’s Chair for Political Economy.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Joseph Ajienko said that some members of the Association have done so much for the university.
In his address the state President of the Association, Engr Sampson Nyerebara said that the programme was conceived to draw attention to the need for greater commitment of members to the university.
Engr Nyerebara said that individual members of the Association have made valuable contributions to the University noting that, this time around the Association intends to make contributions as group.
