First Bank Customers Groan Over Malfunctioning ATMs
Some customers of the First Bank of Nigeria in Lagos on Wednesday complained that the breakdown of the bank’s Automated Teller Machines (ATM) services had exposed them to hardship.
They told our correspondent that they could not make any withdrawal from their various accounts to meet the pressing needs due to the failure of the ATMs.
A customer of the bank, Mr Wale Olabode, said that he could not withdraw his hard earned savings due to the malfunctioning of the ATMs.
Olabode said that the cash-less policy of the CBN might suffer setbacks unless banks improved on their technical services.
Mr Sunday Omachonu, another customer, said that the breakdown of the ATM services had imposed untold hardship on customers.
Omachonu said that he decided to come to the bank’s headquarters on Marina to withdraw money because he was unable to do so at the Ikotun branch.
Another customer, Mrs Ngozi Okoye, said the bank insisted that customers should use the ATMs instead of providing alternative means for them to withdraw from their savings.
Mr Babatunde Lasaki, the Head, Media and External Relations of the bank, said that the non-functioning of the ATMs was as a result of the quarterly routine maintenance.
He appealed to the customers to show understanding, assuring them that all the ATMs services would be restored on Thursday.
A visit by our correspondent to some of the bank’s branches in Lagos showed that the banking halls were crowded by customers due to malfunctioning of the ATMs.
