Student Opens Poultry Farm
Not satisfied with the theoretical aspect of rearing birds as taught by his agricultural science teacher, Master Moses Reuben decided to put what he learnt into practice.
Reuben, a JSS 2 student of Comprehensive Community Secondary School Odiemerenyi in the Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state who spoke to our correspondent over the weekend said he started poultry farming with five chick in 2006 and that today, he could boast of a couple of dozens of live birds which apart from providing the protein needs of his immediate family, he also sells some to help him buy things for his educational pursuit.
On how he plans to sustain the venture and possibly expand it, the student farmer said: “I will tell some of my fellow students to ask their parents to bring money so that we can make the business bigger,” he said.
On the idea of securing loans from the government, Master Reuben said though he had been toying with the possibility, he didn’t know how to go about it since he was still a student.
He said after his secondary education, he would go fully into bird rearing, pending when he will secure admission into a higher institution.
“When I finish my school, I will face this business because they say employment is scarce so I will not sit at home and waste my time,” he said.
While expressing gratitude to his parents especially his father and brother for supporting him both morally and financially in his business and schooling, he called on other parents to identify the God given talents of their children and help them grow towards that direction.
