Rivers PDP, Prepared For LG Congress – Oruwari
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State is fully prepared to conduct the congress to elect members of the executive committees in the 23 local government areas of the state tomorrow.
The state Secretary of the party, Hon. Adokiye Oruwari who dropped the hint in a chat with The Tide in Port Harcourt said the state Chairman of the party, Chief Godpower Ake in concert with the national headquarters of the party had made adequate arrangements to ensure a hitch-free local government congress.
He reiterated that the PDP would not impose persons on party members during the congress, stressing that delegates would be given a free hand to vote for persons of their choice to constitute the executive committees of the party at the various local government areas.
While urging party members to keep the peace during the congress, and co-operate with returning officers and members of the committee from Abuja appointed by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to supervise the exercise, Oruwari said machinery had been put in place to ensure that no hitches were recorded during the congress.
He also lauded the state Chairman of the party, Chief Godpower Ake whom he said had through his leadership style fostered cohesion and harmony within the party.
According to him, the party chairman had demonstrated uncommon wisdom of an elder in the past four years in running the affairs of the party in the state, describing him as an accommodating party leader.
To buttress his points, the party scribe reeled out the achievements of the present state executive committee of the party to include the successful conduct of party primaries that produced 319 councillors across the state and council chairmen in the 23 local government areas of the state.
He equally noted that the party exco had in January 2011 successfully conducted governorship primaries which produced the Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as well as primaries that produced nine members of the House of Representatives, three senators and members of the State House of Assembly.
According to him, PDP had remained formidable in the state going by the leadership style of the state party chairman and the excellent performance of the state governor.
