NIMASA Inaugurates Taskforce For Rivers Ports
In a bid to ensure effective monitoring and compliance with Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) regulations, covering Cabotage and Maritime Labour Services on board vessels and at Ports, terminals platforms and jetties, NIMASA, Eastern Zone has inaugurated a Special Taskforce for River Ports.
Speaking, while inaugurating the taskforce at the conference Hall of NIMASA Eastern Zone Head Office in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, the co-ordinator of the zone, Mr. Olayemi Abass charged the members to identify all non-registered vessels with the organisation’s ship Registry office as well as all unregistered terminals and jetties operating in the state.
Mr. Abass said they should also identify all cabotage non-complaint vessels in the areas of cabotage registrations, ownership building and manning, adding that all illegal manning activities and companies in the state should also be identified for appropriate action by the organisation.
He enjoined them to live above board and carry out their assignment courageously, without fear or favour, adding that “let the right thing be done at all times.
The NIMASA Eastern boss further warned members to be transparent and committed as compatriots to let the organisation and the country move forward, stressing that they should focus on the task at hand with diligence and dedication for the good of the masses.
Mr. Abass decried a situation where a foreign vessel with 70 crew members came into a Port and carried out their business without paying cabotage fee, pointing out that such illegal activities should be discouraged, as said the taskforce is without boarder to ensure total Maritime regulation compliance.
