Stray Bullet Kills Old Soldier In Yenagoa
Serenity of Ovom, a suburb of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital was on Monday night tampered as cultists operating in the neigbourhood carried out shooting parades that resulted in the death of a 65 year old retired soldier.
The incident which occured at about 11pm of the fateful day last for about 30 minutes before they were disloged by combined team of police and the army.
The Tide gathered that apart from the victim identified as Mr Billy from Okunbiri village in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state, many other people were also injured by stray bullets.
During the incident, it was further gathered that resident, watched the booming of guns from behind doors, while shop owners and other late night business operators hurriedly locked up for the day.
While the injured are being treated, the corpse of the victim is now lying in the Federal Medical Centre mortuary awaiting autopsy.
A senior police officer said some arrest had been made in connection with the incident, and investigations are going on to unravel those behind it.
Ovom, with a density population, is a flash point of criminal activities in the state capital where robbery, cult wars and other criminal activities are regular features with the present incident occurring around Dimeari Grammar School, area.
