Amaechi Hails Ban On Same Sex Marriage
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has described as “historic” and symbolic of divine upliftment for the country, the outlawing of same sex marriage in the country by the Senate.
Governor Amaechi said this during a thanksgiving service for the Chairman of the State Local Government Service Commission, Chief Azubuike Nmerukini at Saint Thomas Anglican Church, Diobu, Port Harcourt.
Governor Amaechi, who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, thanked the Senate for standing up to be counted at a time the nation is seeking transformation, noting that for all round transformation of the country, the nation must be redirected on the path of spiritual uprightness. The Governor said that the move to stand against same sex marriage in the nation was actually started by the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, and that the Senate only reaffirmed the ecclesiastical direction of the Church in national affairs.
Expressing gratitude to God for using the Anglican Church to evolve a new spiritual repositioning of the country, the State Chief Executive urged the House of Representatives to take a cue from the Senate, and instead of much debate go ahead to pass the bill outlawing same sex marriage, urging the Church and all people interested in the sanity of the nation to demand the quick passage of the bill by the House of Representatives.
Dwelling on the celebrant, Governor Amaechi described him as a good and blessed man, by reason of his track record of achievements and continuous elevation in public life, and for raising a child, Miss Chika Nmerukini, who is now a medical doctor, noting that by this, Chief and Mrs Nmerukini have fulfilled their God given mandate.
In a sermon titled “Humility and Loyalty, a requirement for greatness”, the Archbishop, Province of Niger Delta and Bishop, Niger Delta North Diocese, Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Ignatius Kattey, quoting from Luke 3: 1-20, declared that “humility and loyalty are the basis of promotion in service,” saying that “John the Baptist was humble and loyal to Christ, hence Jesus Christ declared him as the most powerful prophet ever born”.
Also speaking, Chief Nmerukini thanked the State Governor for his support to his family and for the good governance of the State, calling for greater co-operation between the State Government and the Local Governments for the State to achieve the much needed development, as been engineered by the present administration.
Dignitaries that graced the occasion include the Minister of the State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, the Member representing Port Harcourt Constituency I, House of Representatives, Hon. Mrs Nseigbe, The State Woman Leader, Peoples Democratic Party, Mrs. Justina Imeji, and Deputy Mayor of Port Harcourt City, Mrs Nancy Stephens, among others.
