‘We’ll Make Enugu Commerce, Tourism Haven’
Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu State, has reiterated the ambition of his administration to make the state one of the country’s biggest centres for commerce and tourism before the expiration of his tenure.
Chime who stated this recently during the opening ceremony of the Enugu outlet of international retail conglomerate Game at the Enugu Shopping Mall, said the government had created conducive environment and provided the infrastructure necessary to attract major foreign and local investors as well as tourists across the globe.
He noted that the government had made successful efforts at providing such cardinal necessities as security, good road networks and other social amenities in both urban and rural areas of the state, adding that this had accounted mainly for the influx of investors to Enugu in recent times.
The Governor who was accompanied to the occasion by top government officials, described the opening of “Game”, which is the second retail conglomerate after Shoprite to come to Enugu, as “a dream come true” and another watershed in the drive of the government to create jobs for its teeming citizens and generally enhance their socio-economic well being.
According to him, both shopping concerns would greatly enhance the economic and tourism potentials of the state especially with the increasing influx of people from neighbouring states.
He, therefore, expressed gratitude to the management of the shopping mall for having the trust and confidence in his administration as to make huge investments in the state and reassured existing and potential investors in the state of the unrelenting support of government.
In his contribution, the General Manager of Polo Park Mall, Mr Gohan Blom, described the complex as one of the best in Africa, explaining that the companies in the mall had offered jobs to about one thousand people.
The state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Joe Mammel in his speech, said the management of the shopping mall would encourage local manufacturers whose products met required standards and therefore called on manufacturers to avail themselves of the opportunities provided by the mall.
