Oba Urges Unity, Peace At Nchaka
Former Chairman of Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and the Oba (Eze Ogba) of Ogbaland, Sir Chukumela Nnam Obi II has sued for unity, peace, understanding and tolerance among the people of Ogbaland.
He gave the advice at the proclamation of the 2011 Nchaka festival of Ogbaland at Omoku and reminded the people of the spiritual import of the event which is usually the new yam festival of the kingdom.
Oba Nnam Obi II noted that the country was passing through critical times that required the patience, perseverance and understanding of the various ethnic nationalities and advised the people of Ogbaland to eschew bitterness and rancour to ensure speedy development of the area.
The monarch stated that peace and progress had become imperative as government was doing everything within limits of its resources to ensure that democracy dividends got to the people.
He urged the people to shun divisive tendencies that are capable of undermining the growth and progress of the kingdom, adding that they should not allow themselves to be used by those he described as enemies of progress.
The event continues tomorrow at Omoku as (Nkwota) Nchaka market day, while Tuesday, November 29, 2011 and Saturday, December 3, 2011 are women and men Nchaka days respectively.
Similarly, Sunday, December 4, 2011 (Nkwota) and Tuesday, December 6, 2011 (Orie) have been designated as Obakata and Obieti wrestling days respectively, while Usomini, Obosi and Obohia would have their wrestling days on December 7,8, and 10 respectively.
