Super Eagles’ Low Rating Worries Okocha
Jay Jay Okocha says he is ‘worried’ about Nigeria’s drop in world rankings.
According to Fifa rankings released last week, Nigeria dropped five places to 43rd in the world and sixth in Africa.
This is a far cry from the Super Eagles’ highest ever ranking, 5th, achieved with Okocha in the team in April 1994.
Okocha, who is now a member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) technical committee, said that the Super Eagles must get back to where they belong.
“When you look at the world ranking you find out it is not where we are supposed to be. I am particularly worried about our low rating and the way we have been playing,” he said.
“Honestly, it is not where we are supposed to be; we need to sit down and ask questions why we have stagnated in rating such that the likes of Burkina Faso are currently ranked ahead of us. We need to find the way forward.”
Okocha says Nigeria is on the right track since his former national teammate Samson Siasia took over late last year.
“You will agree that we have been playing the way we should for over a year now which is an indication that we are on right course,” Okocha continued.
