RSG Explains ICT Vacation Class
The Rivers State Government has said that the central idea in the vacation class on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for secondary school students and primary school pupils was to ensure that the state invested properly on the children.
The Governor’s S.A. on ICT, Engr. Goodliffe Nmekini, said this on Monday during the closing ceremony of the 2011 ICT Farm at the centre in Port Harcourt.
Nmekini, noted that it was high time the children got the required technical know-how, that will equip them as future leaders.
He charged parents to teach their children the right way so that they can be a better generation.
“You are our hope, our future leaders, so, parents teach your kids the right way, so that they can be a better generation and properly represent the state”, he said.
He further, explained that the kids as future leaders need ICT training so as to enable them excel in the different professions.
The Governor’s aide equally charged parents to monitor what their children are doing online, adding that they (parents) should avail themselves of the opportunity to acquire ICT skill so that they can monitor the kids adequately.
Also speaking the Chairman of the occasion, Fortune Oguru, said that the 2011 ICT vacation class was a plus to the Amaechi-led administration.
Oguru, who is a Permanent Secretary in Government House, re-affirmed government’s determination to support ICT training in the state, pointed out that the governor’s idea is to ensure that every subject was taught through the computer.
While reiterating the centre’s readiness to teach those who care to learn, he appreciated parents who allowed their kids for the programme.
The permanent secretary, who described the ICT Farm as a credit to the government hinted that the early exposure of children to computer knowledge will enable them to do well in the future.
Meanwhile, he appealed to parents to provide Laptop computer for their kids so that they can keep afresh the knowledge gained during their training at the 2011 ICT Farm.
The overall best student, Echenwo Justice Gbekei, has applauded the state government over the training as he promised to utilise the computer given him. About 300 students enrolled for the 2011 ICT Farm.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
