‘Goal-Setting, First Step To Vision Attainment’
Towards ensuring behavioural change among Nigeria’s youths in pursuit of the attainment of their visions, an expert in Vision attainment, Lion Nsikan Bassey has identified goal-setting as the first step.
Lion Nsikan made the identification, Tuesday at a youth programme organised by the Port Harcourt Crystal Lions Club at the Royal Vantage Hotel, Port Harcourt.
In his paper titled “Vision and Goal-Setting” Bassey noted that as leaders of tomorrow, the youths need to have a vision of what they want in life and work towards it.
After “Finding Your Vision”, he said, the vision has to be described in clear terms in such manner that would enhance easy comprehension.
“Every great leader starts by having a vision. The importance of having a vision is being able to describe it. The dream comes first, then the words, which paints a picture of the future and helps turn a dream into words that can be communicated”, he said.
In order to define one’s vision, Lion Nsikan said, an individual needs to ask and answer three vital questions. The first is “Who am I?”, because “no person can succeed if, he does not know himself”.
While describing a vision as agigantic project that must be achieved in bits, Bassey noted that setting-up goals amounts to the bits through which the vision can be achieved.
“A vision is like an elephant, we can only eat an elephant one bite at a time”, he said.
In her brief remark, a Director in the Rivers State Post Primary Schools Board, Mrs. Ibu Iboroma, urged participants at the event to always engage themselves in meaningful ventures, saying that redundancy will expose them to anti-social vices.
On her part, president of the Port Harcourt Crystal Lions Club, Lion Rekia Nya said the programme was organised as part of efforts to give the youth in Rivers State a focus in life.
A total of eight participants comprising senior secondary school students, those seeking admission into tertiary institutions and undergraduates, attended the programme.
